Summary

One single act can change a person's life for good - or bad - and every choice comes with consequences. Sarah De Luz must forge a path through resistance to save those she loves while struggling with her own inner demons.

A late-night excursion takes Sarah to Chase Pond, her one true refuge. She soon finds there are formidable secrets hidden under the dark waters of the pond. A wealth of knowledge about man's quest for longevity and love is waiting to be discovered. But whispers of war and unspeakable horrors loom in the shadows, waiting for her to choose a side.

Haunted by her past and driven forward by fate, she must fully embrace her destiny and awaken, even if it means losing her identity in the process.

Dissappointing

XP is an interesting disease and Ive only read about it once before in a series by Dean Koontz (Fear Nothing, Seize the night), that was more a sci fi/thriller with some humour thrown in and despite him never truly finishing it its a great couple of books. This is done more in a supernatural story and definitely not as well.

The story doesn't start well, the dialogue seems flat and it's a bit confused. The whole other creatures thing seems a bit hackneyed and the 'sexyness' just seems to be the primary focus and not the story itself.

Narrator speaks quite slowly which sounds like it was a bit deliberate and forced. Was there really a need to read the copyright notice, ISBN, website etc? Seriously? Who told her to do that and the whole forward as it was just odd. This ended up with audible showing chapter 6 but the narrator reading chapter 2.

The narrator tries to do character voices but her female voice sounds a bit pathetic and her male voices sound monotonous, robotic and show no emotion. It's like she's trying to do 'spooky' but it just doesn't work. The least said about the cat noises the better.

I DNF this as it just did not get any better.
