Summary
Monsters do exist... and they're the good guys. Lillian Rosewood leads an ordinary, boring life working as the manager of a psychiatric hospital. The highlights of her day, other than her skinny hot chocolate, are the hunky guards who work in the secure section. Until a late-night emergency is wheeled in. Captain Jack Harper is insane, drop-dead gorgeous... and just had his abdomen shredded. Despite the fact they're not an emergency room, Lillian can't turn him away and risk a death on her hands. Unable to get the handsome soldier out of her mind, Lillian sneaks into the restricted area to check on him. What she finds is beyond belief. Somehow Jack has managed to heal himself from a near-fatal wound in mere hours. When one of the doctors, Walker, attempts to rape her, things go from bad to worse. In the blink of an eye, Jack is loose and Walker is dead... and Lillian must accept a truth about her rescuer that will change her world forever. What if the patients aren't insane? What if their stories of secret government experiments and monsters are true?
Warning: Contains blood, mayhem, and nude werewolves operating heavy weaponry. Large amounts of sarcasm and smart-ass vampires may offend some listeners. No civilian hospital staff were harmed in the making of this story.

An Action-Packed Fast-Paced Adventure
Mina Carter is not a new-to-me author. I originally read this book in 2019 and gave it 5 stars.
But has my original review stood the test of time?
Yes! I enjoyed listening to it and still rate Perfect Mate 5 stars.
The world-building is expertly woven into this story using her four main characters. Captain Jack Harper, Lillian (Lilly) Rosewood, Major Antonia (Toni) Fielding and Lieutenant D'Arcy (Darce) Foster all had their stories to tell. However, I never felt confused with the changes of perspective or whose head we were in.
Emily Beresford is a new-to-me narrator.
The pace is fast and the violence is frequent in this story and Emily's performance mirrored that. She gave each scene the appropriate emotion in her reading. Her male voices weren't as deep and rich as I'd had them in my head but Emily did a good job. She created different voices that were distinctive so that I didn't get lost in the dialogue. I'd happily listen to audiobooks narrated by Emily in the future.
Perfect Mate was one hell of a ride!
I was hooked, even though I had read the story before. I'd recommend Perfect Mate to adults who enjoy non-stop urban fantasy adventures. Especially those readers who love soul mate romances set against darker, horror-esque themes.
Content Warning: violence, blood & gore, attempted rape, foul language, explicit sex scenes, medical experimentation.

I’m hooked
Format: audio & ebook
Oh wow this story had me in its grip from the off.
Shifters, vamps and zombies are being genetically engineered as part of a secret military project and as usual the humans are the ones thinking they are completely in control of the ‘monsters’ they’ve created! Err, think again.
I loved this story and easily became invested in the characters, the narration is good, the writing is great, I wasn’t ready for it to end and really need to grab the next book, I have to see how things play out between Darce and Antonia.

not quite perfect mate by Mina Carter
Original take on werewolf genre. Great sci-fi fantasy backdrop to an exciting and well paced story. Likeable H & h. Spoilt for me by cloying over sentimentality in the dialog, sadly common in romance books, which lost the 5 star rating. Also fated mates thing which is not my preference. Excellent narrator. I will be trying the follow on books despite faults.

unexpectedly emotional
I wasn't sure when I started this recording what to expect. but what I wasn't expecting was so much emotion anger, love and everything in-between. it is not Twilight book more rough edges and fighting blood and guts. Characters except Lilly have very little back story which is disappointing but otherwise I have no criticism. narration very good.

Secondary storyline not finished
It was an enjoyable enough listen, lots of action, insta romance. It bugs me a bit that there was a secondary storyline, or a second pair of mates, whose story we get to follow, but their story is not finished with the book. Usually we just get glimpses of what isbhappening to the people the writer will explore in another book, but in this one there are chapters written from the point of view of the other pair as well, so it feels like there are 4 main characters, but the end does not feel like the end. Probably there will be a next book.

Give me more
Good Story but a bit disappointed with ending there should have been more to it. A part from that I do enjoy listening to Mina Cater books.

Confusing
What a confusing story. Too many things going on and switching between characters. Should have been a good story but I fast forwarded the last 4 chapters as my brain hurt 😤

A great read
I got so into this book that I had to buy the rest of the series to read. I went on their adventures with the characters. I really got lost in the story and need to continue and find out if Darcy survives and if so, how he wins over his mate. Jacks mate has just been turned so I need to see how she copes with it all. Got to go and read book two now. Great book!
