Summary
Dustin Walker has no idea that avoiding the search for Mrs. Right could send him into the arms and bed of Mr. Right Now. According to Dustin's mother, he should be out looking for his next wife so he won't be the divorced black sheep of the family. Instead, he passes his free time at a local bar and pool hall, where he meets someone who's everything his ex-wife wasn't: funny, caring, faithful...and male.
Is Brandon Stewart just Dustin's way of getting over a bitter divorce? Can Dustin really care for him, or is it simply that Brandon is the complete opposite of his ex-wife? Dustin keeps their affair as quiet as possible, because if it continues, he knows he'll eventually have to come out to his homophobic family or walk out on the man he's trying not to love.

Gritty, intense drama of coming out and coming to terms with family attitudes then finding love. Fabulously performed by this narrator. The simile and metaphor of a game using balls and pool cues is apt and piquant. The MCs are so well outlined and characterized to create an intelligent, no nonsense tapestry: Dustin, ex marine and Brandon a professor.

Intense Journey and Exquisite Narration.
What I loved about this story is that the chemistry, passion and intensity between the two characters is the driving force behind their relationship at the start, but as the reader you can see it developing into feels and are just willing the character to discover it too. But feels are complicated.
Nick j Russo was absolutely amazing at the narration. His intonations were perfect, each character had a distinctive and believable voice, the narrative (the bits that aren’t dialogue) wasn’t read in that flat monotone way that most other narrators read, it was as nuanced as the dialogue. He committed to the intimate scenes too and brought their chemistry to life. I get the impression that a lot of narrators are embarrassed or intimidated with the more intimate scenes and don’t put in the emotion or passion, Russo doesn’t shy away from this and it elevates his performance above other narrators because it adds to the overall story and makes the stakes higher. That goes for the rest of his narration too, you can hear the characters anger, frustration, hurt, fondness, amusement- this is not just a book being read, it’s a book being performed and Russo does it exquisitely. It’s really difficult to find m/m books with this high standard of performance. I wish more of the M/M writers would use Nick J Russo, so many of my favourite m/m books are ruined by subpar narration.
