Summary

Meet Caprice, better known as the villainess Capricious Whim....

Caprice is a woman who works hard and plays hard. She's a veteran villain of Imperial City, and what you might call a maladjusted individual. While she plots to achieve her own goals, she's forced to take whatever jobs may come along, and any unintended consequences from them!

The heroes don't always win in this world, but being a villain has its own unique set of problems.

A little weird, but enjoyable enough!

What did you like best about The Queen of Swords? What did you like least?

I liked the fact that there was a good balance between the erotica and the plot and world building. I wish there had been a tiny bit more humor in the story.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I'd have made Caprice a tiny bit less villainous.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

Probably the bit at the start where Caprice was introducing herself.

Did The Queen of Swords inspire you to do anything?

Not really, but it is not like I was bored while listening to the story so that still counts as a win!

Any additional comments?

I'm not a big listener to erotica and was mainly sucked into this one because I was hoping for a mix of superpowers and romance. What I got was more sex and superpowers. I was happy with the plot, but left wishing for a bit more romance!

"It was the best game of all."

Any additional comments?

With just the right sufficiency of an action story to showcase the erotica, this witty tale of the dark side is colourfully well written. Told in the first person from the perspective of Candice, an enhanced and charismatically beautiful woman who, amongst other attributes, can read minds and fly, the listener is treated to her thoughts, deeds and, er, emotions. The characterisations are great, the descriptions envigorating.

Rebecca Wolfe's sexy, warm and sardonic voicing captures the personality of the heroine villainess with a lust for life, killing and sexual extravagances perfectly. She is Candice in all of her flamboyant glory. Not a book for everyone, with mature scenes of explicit sex and violence, but Alana Melos brings an imaginative vibrance to her protagonists which makes it an easy book to enjoy.

My thanks to the rights holder for gifting me a complementary copy of The Queen of Swords, via Audiobook Boom. I am looking forward to the next.
