Virgin Tribute takes place in a post-genetic mutation world. A dangerous world where a virgin is given to The Protector each year in exchange for protection. Raegen is chosen a that virgin tribute, despite not wanting to be. I like that Raegan is smart, sassy and strong, taking matters into her own hands to try and get out of the situation she's put it. While a fun romance, I liked other Delta James's books I've read previously better. Virgin Tribute was a fun afternoon listen but I wouldn't reread it.

Into Each Generation There Is A Chosen One....

I received a promotional code for this book and this is my voluntary review.

Reagen the Beast Slayer! erm... no.. wrong chosen trope.. she is the girl picked from District 12! Nope.
Not that one either.

Actually in this story The Chosen is the unfortunate winner for a twisted annual pageant to find the virgin sacrifice because its Year Apocalypse and only Gilead and tossing innocent girls into volcanoes/feeding them to King Kong are the only shred of humanity to survive. Only Drake isn't exactly a Gorilla, just a mutated former scientist now referred to as The Protector. A super virus mutated and killed most of humanity, those who had a natural immunity retreated behind high walls, and went underground like those in Sanctuary. Immune humans are an important resource for Drake who wants to continue his work and give humanity a chance to beat back the mutant hordes and repopulate. His aim is breed his stronger DNA with that of an immune female to produce superior offspring and his price for protecting them is one virgin of childbearing age a year to attempt this process.

All have failed to conceive and almost 2 decades later, Reagen is now the chosen one. Given to the protector as tribute and concubine. Sparks fly as the feisty heroine tries to save herself and Drake is convinced that she is the one.

The relationship between them is pretty hot. I enjoyed it.
