An enthralling combination of romantic escapism and historical reality!

I really enjoyed following the story of Kitty and Sidney, two tender-hearted, good-natured romantic characters. Their romantic narrative certainly kept me guessing as external obstacles (not least their own family members) threatened to take eternal happiness from their possession.

The sweetness of the romantic hero and heroine, and their determination to live quietly and happily together, was engagingly contrasted against moments revealing the dark underbelly of Regency reality.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading about all the historical research that went into this novel and it is evident in the nuanced narrative. It simultaneously leans into the escapism of regency fantasy that is so popular with fans of this period while presenting uncomfortable truths and sobering realities of the experiences of people who really lived in that era.

A great read!
