About this listen
AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES NO.1 BESTSELLER
A brutal murder, a missing masterpiece, a mystery only Gabriel Allon can solve…
Acclaimed internationally bestselling author Daniel Silva returns with the year’s most anticipated new thriller.
Art restorer and legendary spy Gabriel Allon has slipped quietly into London to attend a reception at the Courtauld Gallery celebrating the return of a stolen self-portrait by Vincent van Gogh. But when an old friend from the Devon and Cornwall Police seeks his help with a baffling murder investigation, he finds himself pursuing a powerful and dangerous new adversary.
The victim is Charlotte Blake, a celebrated professor of art history from Oxford who spends her weekends in the same seaside village where Gabriel once lived under an assumed identity. Her murder appears to be the work of a diabolical serial killer who has been terrorizing the Cornish countryside. But there are a number of telltale inconsistencies, including a missing mobile phone. And then there is the mysterious three-letter cypher she left behind on a notepad in her study.
Gabriel soon discovers that Professor Blake was searching for a looted Picasso worth more than a $100 million, and he takes up the chase for the painting as only he can – with six Impressionist canvases forged by his own hand and an unlikely team of operatives that includes a world-famous violinist, a beautiful master thief, and a lethal contract killer turned British spy. The result is a stylish and wildly entertaining mystery that moves at lightning speed from the cliffs of Cornwall to the enchanted island of Corsica and, finally, to a breathtaking climax on the very doorstep of 10 Downing Street.
Supremely elegant and suspenseful, A Death in Cornwall is Daniel Silva at his best – a dazzling tale of murder, power, and insatiable greed that will hold listeners spellbound until the end.

Like meeting up with old friends…
Like meeting up with old friends whose company is such a pleasure to experience.
One of the few Allon novels that doesn’t involve the Israeli secret service and the legendary team he created in his former life.
Has all Silva’s hallmarks of thrills, nostalgia, righteous anger and sexy locations and characters.
Enjoyed this from start to finish.

Good plot. Good voice characterisation.
Inappropriate Americanisation of pronunciation is distracting and irritating. Surely the producers could have advised re this during editing. Spoils an otherwise excellent experience.

Gabriel Allon is a great character
Gabriel is a great character and I have read all of the books, I decided to buy this one on audible without sampling the narration, big mistake. I really enjoy audible and use it a lot, this is the worst narration I have heard, sadly with faux accents and different characters speaking in either a quicker voice or a breathier one to denote a female etc.

Hugely enjoyable - as always
Love Gabriel Allon. His adventures are always interesting & genuinely exciting. Probably fortunate (August 2024) that he’s no longer part of the Israeli establishment…but he, his wife and the other regulars are like old friends, and, from a British perspective, who’s to say that we are as pure as…anyway? Conservative Party, as portrayed in this, probably comes off pretty lightly compared with the likely reality. Looking forward to Gabriel’s next sortie, and hoping there’ll be scope to include Timothy in future instalments. And Eduardo is a worthy successor as narrator. All in all, excellent & highly recommended.

Daniel Silva writes an excellent and informative book. Just wish it was twice as long. Looking forward to the next one.

Please change the narrator
Takes a while to get going but then trundles along quite well in the usual Daniel Silva style. Not as good as the early books in the series but enjoyable. The narrators attempts at regional accents are disgraceful.

The irritating narrators voice made the whole listening experience rather disappointing.
Disappointing compared with previous books as the content did not come across well through audio so will return to a hard copy.

Finished it out of a sense of duty to Gabriel.
It's about time the character, the author and certainly the narrator packed their bags and headed off to live in some utopic world in Connecitcut
