Summary
A murdered priest leaves behind records of confessional secrets. Secrets someone would prefer he took to the grave.
A small town in the English countryside isolated by a severe storm, and a young female officer, alone and out of her depth. A troubled priest is brutally murdered, leaving behind a journal of the residents' confessional secrets; secrets certain people would have preferred he took to the grave.
As word spreads, the pressure rises as the eyes of the town watch her every move. With no forensic team, no support, and a savage killer hiding in a turbulent town, is PC Sarah Gladstone up to the task?

Rather formulaic
The blurb was enticing, but I just didn't get into this story. I couldn't get on board with Sarah, she didn't seem to have any relationship with her own mother. The whole flood and town being cut off for weeks seemed far fetched. It just irritated me. I also thought that the narration wasn't great. The word is 'SOCO', not 'sew-co' and various other mispronunciations that got under my skin. I'm sure this will appeal to lots of people, it's merely that I'm not one of them.

Great story and well narrated
I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook. The story was exciting and I was gripped right to the end. The narration was well paced and the characters well acted. I look forward to hearing the second in the series!

Enjoyable
I enjoyed the story and the plot-line held my interest although it felt a bit rushed in places - particularly towards the end. The premise - a dead body found in a small town cut off by floods with only an inexperienced policewoman to solve the crime - was good, and I particularly like the lead character Sarah, who felt believable and real.

Bit flat!
Story was reasonable and could have been made more interesting and pacey if the narrator had made an effort to put a bit more passion into her performance with the characters she was portraying!
