I caught Sandi's name whilst surfing Audible's offerings and bought a few to dip my toes in the water. this is my first which, surprise surprise, i read straight through without stopping. Great story, well written and Historically accurate. the narrator did a good job with various accents. Well done.

A Surprise

Would you listen to A Slice of the Moon again? Why?

Yes, I was surprised by this book. It moved me to tears several times and gave me laughs and goosebumps!!

What did you like best about this story?

the factual nature of the subject matter that was humanised by a wonderful family.

What does Lisa Dwan bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Her accent was authentic and she acted all that parts perfectly.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

It was a time of Love, It was a time of famine, it was time for and adventure....

Excellent story, brilliantly written.

What a fabulous story covering the horrors of the potato famine and emigration to America. The characters are interesting and although at times the story is quite harrowing, I really wanted to know the next chapter.

A wonderful listen and a wonderful lesson

Beautifully narrated, this book, recommended to me (37F) by my niece (10F). It is well told, factually very accurate and full of many lessons including the difficult subjects of loss and the pitfalls of greed. Wonderfully descriptive, Toksvig has painted the perfectly correct picture of two seperate countries which, at the time, were places of everything and nothing all at once. I will go on to listen to the rest of the series.

Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant!

What a clever lady Sandi Toksvig is, because she was interested in the plight of the Irish and couldn't find a book which told of the personal stories, she decided to write one herself!
Being of Irish heritage myself, I found this book both fascinating and disturbing. I was completely consumed the whole way through and felt that I knew the characters by the time the story came to an end. Have already downloaded the second book "The End of the Sky"
Thank you so much for giving us a book that all generations can read and learn the truth about this disaster!

Beautiful story telling and insight

I was really interested in the history of the Irish potato famine and thought this would be wonderful way to gather a personal account albeit in a story format. Wonderfully written and beautifully told (though the odd accent was a bit sketchy!) disappointed that the next will have a different narrator. But throughly recommend for all ages!

Wow, What an emotional journey!

This book is absolutely fabulous, beautifully written, and delightfully narrated by Lisa Dwan with her wonderful lilting voice.

I would like to see a ‘next in the series’, I feel so invested in this Irish family and would like to know how they got on in the next part of their voyage. Sandi Toksvig is a wonderful writer, I found tears in my eyes on several occasions, and I shared the family’s love and joy too.

I have just discovered that there is a next in series.... The End of the Sky, I’m off to download it now.
