Summary

The enemy gets into our minds through our bodies. God gets to our bodies though our minds. Welcome to the dieting mind. Welcome to the revolutionary way to lose weight and keep it off for life. With very little exercise, while eating what you want - you will lose weight. All while being conformed to the image of Christ. Welcome to The Dieting Mind, where we change the way we think, and our bodies transform. As the snail secretes its shell, so the soul secretes its body.

Your body is designed to eat. It is also designed to survive. Sometimes survival becomes so hard, we move toward the one infantile desire and symbol for life and security. And that is food. Something in your life may have driven you toward emotional eating as a coping mechanism. You are coping with your survival. So, stop trying to fight that battle for now. Let's chip away at the problem. Rather than going for the root of the problem, let's drill a hole in the stump and light it on fire.

If we are going to be masters over our bodies, we must understand what addiction is. Addiction comes from two Latin words: Ad - meaning to. And dicere - to say. It's where we get the word diction. As in: "he's great diction."

A hard, literal meaning of the word addiction is: to say. Addictions start when we start saying "I want that. I need that. I can't be happy without that."

Then we start desiring "that" without saying it anymore. A pathway is blazoned in our brains that moves our bodies. Our bodies move our hands and feet like a puppet directing us with strings tied to our desires. And the moment you say to it, "You cannot have any cheesecake today." That's when it kicks into high gear. The scheming starts the moment you said it. "No cheesecake."

Your body, your host, this thing designed specifically for you is addicted to pleasure. Anything that makes it feel good - it has the propensity to be addicted to. You must master it. Addiction means "to say." What have you been telling yourself? Whatever it is, stop it. Stop saying "I am addicted to food." Try this, "My body is addicted to food."

Our need for food is at the core of every addiction. To stop the addiction, to deny yourself food, you are able to confront the addiction from a different angle. Emotional eating is addiction. But believe it or not, the addiction is not for the food, it is for the feeling you get from the food. It is very important to keep it separate.

Remember what I wrote about my growling stomach? No matter where I am, when my stomach growls at me wanting food, I say, "I'll get to you when I'm ready."
