Her family cruelly wrenched from her, Alicia rescued other Jews from the Gestapo, led them to safe hideouts, and lent them her courage and hope. Even the sight of her mother’s brutal murder could not quash this remarkable child’s faith in human goodness - or her determination to prevail against overwhelming odds.
After the war, Alicia continued to risk her life, leading Polish Jews on an underground route to freedom in Palestine. She swore on her brother’s grave that if she survived, she would speak for her silenced family. This book is the eloquent fulfillment of that oath.

Great listen.

Eye watering!
I was afraid to continue listening because the horrors of the war against the Jews was appalling. We can never let this happen again. The cruelty of mankind to mankind was hard to digest. The bravery of the innocent was heartbreaking. Thank you Alicia for writing in a clear concise way that we could understand.

A tragic but important memoir
I have read some reviews stating that this story is far-fetched and contains too many coincidences. This is a cynical approach to the incredible story of a young girl who was forced to live on her wits and show incredible resilience in order to survive. Those of us who did not go through this cannot begin to comprehend.
This is an important memoir of a tragic and shameful period in Europe’s recent history.
