Keane’s existence as a war reporter is all that we imagine: frantic filing of reports and dodging shells, interspersed with rest in bombed-out hotels and concrete shelters. Life in such vulnerable areas of the globe is emotionally draining, but full of astonishing moments of camaraderie and human bravery. And so this is also a memoir of the human connections, at once simple and complex, that are made in extreme circumstances. These pages are filled with the memories of remarkable people. At the heart of Fergal Keane's story is a descent into and recovery from alcoholism, spanning two generations, father and son; a different kind of war, but as much part of the journey of the last 25 years as the bullets and bombs.

A fantastic book
What a book. Fergal’s rich tones add to the quality of this book. Beautifully poetic in places, hard to hear details of war in others, it kept me enthralled throughout. But what shone through was the love for his father and family which ultimately saw him through. Just brilliant.

Masterful
Once in a while you read/ hear a book that takes you aback with its power and eloquence. This is one such book. Sad, descriptive of life and emotions, informative, thought provoking and life affirming. A glorious creation.
As they say around here (Limerick, Ireland) "Shur why wouldn't it be good. Wasnt his uncle handy with the words too..."

I loved this book. Honest, deep and gripping.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and loved the narration by Fergal who is a master with words. The stories came alive, gripped my imagination and stayed with me.

A little lost for words
I would say that in my 50 years, I have never 'read' a book that evoked every human emotion. Fergal Keane is literary genius. Literary genius is described as such: a multi-layered aptitude that consists of many unique cognitive, affective, perceptual, motivational, interpersonal, and state-dependent attributes, including the challenging of orthodox thinking, fertility of ideas, compulsive discipline and hard work, tolerance of ambiguity, innocence of perception, immersion in the present moment, intellectual diversity, an internal locus of evaluation, and sensitivity to nuances. This best describes All Of These People by Fergal Keane.

A must read human story
A beautifully narrated, personal & important story, from a celebrated war correspondent. An honest & impactful story of the horror of war but also the impact of childhood experience on us all.
