About this listen
Timothy Sykes turned $12,000 of Bar Mitzvah gift money into $1.65 million by trading thousands of stocks from 1999 to 2002. He managed the number-one Short Bias Hedge Fund from 2003 to 2006, starred in the television documentary Wall Street Warriors, and appeared regularly on CNBC - all before the age of 26. It's been a wild ride.
This Rocky-like story is the first realistic look at the world of stock trading and hedge funds. It will educate and inspire everyone.
©2008 Timothy Sykes (P)2008 HFactor PublishingCritic reviews
"There's certainly a dash of Holden Caulfield to Sykes, but there's at least an equal part Larry Livingston, the trader in Edwin LeFevre's classic Reminiscences of a Stock Operator." ( Dow Jones Newswire)
"A clearly written account of a natural trader coming of age, a Catcher in the Rye for traders. Highly recommended if you want to be or understand a trader." (Aaron C. Brown, Executive Director at Morgan Stanley and author of The Poker Face of Wall Street)

Thanks Tim
This is the second finance book I’ve read after Rich Dad Poor Dad. A great insight into the reality of trading and I was equally inspired by learning from Tim’s mistakes as from his successes.
Thanks Tim, for sharing your journey...the rough and the smooth.

Inspiring
I loved the fact that Timothy Sykes has taken a huge step against the negativity which surrounds the trading world. If you invest your time wisely in your research then trading can be a fantastic source of income.

Was great until I visited his YouTube channel
I like bios that are based on truth, or mostly truth. The story here is told well, and there certainly are elements of truth like he really was on TV, but it lost a lot of credibility when I came across his YouTube videos . Especially one where he shows a drawer full of money to impress potential students. To me he looked just like one of those fake get rich quick gurus, trying to sell you a cute story to get you to sign up.
Beside that, it is an entertaining read if you enjoy reading stock market stories and don't care about the proportion of fact to fiction.

Don't buy a used car from this guy.
There is a lot of interesting insights into how the hedge fund business works in here, (or at least how it worked ten years ago), but there's also an awful lot of self-mythologizing that makes one wonder if Sykes is ultimately more interested in being well known than he is in trading, or running a fund. Having finished the book, I'm still not sure I know how best to acquire investors for a fund.
I don't want to seem too harsh - there is a lot good material in here for finance buffs. But there's also a lot of talk about wild parties he attended, TV shows he was on, and how he was a legend in his college dorm. Stories like how he bullied his roommate into moving out so he could have more space, which leave one wondering if it's a coincidence that the "passion for public education about finance" he cites as the reason he wrote this book, might have been discovered only after his fund failed to take off.
Still worth a listen if you're interested in the field.

Honest Book
Good honest account of a young man's experiences with the stock market. Timothy Sykes is open and honest about his mistakes and therefore the listener can learn from them.
