Summary

Explore the captivating life of Andrew Jackson!

When Jackson left the White House after two presidential terms, he had achieved a rare feat: He left office with even more popularity than when he first entered it. His reputation as a strong president and a “champion of working-class democracy” has nevertheless been viewed through a more nuanced lens in recent years.

In 2016, President Barack Obama decided to replace Andrew Jackson’s visage on the front of the $20 bill with a portrait of abolitionist Harriet Tubman. Meanwhile, current President Donald Trump has repeatedly drawn parallels between himself and Jackson via his infamous Twitter account and public speeches. He even put a portrait of Jackson in the Oval Office and visited his tomb in Nashville shortly after being sworn in.

The present day is thus an apt time for a look into Jackson’s divisive life and legacy and that is what this captivating audiobook offers.

The 1st Populist President.

Indeed well written history of Andrew Jackson's Presidency as the first democratic President that was not part of the Eastern founding father's establishment. Very enlightening for anyone looking at Pres 45's experiences to date and what his future may well hold.

One of the best books/biography.

A thorough biography of Jackson, whose view of the indissolubility of the Union informed Lincoln and helped form the country we know. Even more remarkable is that he believed in slavery and engineered the removal of the Cherokees. His victory over Biddle and the Bank of the United States is well described, but the cautionary tale that episode should have for us is slighted.

Top of the line, best choice.

So much knowledge but still so extremely decipherable. Expect to devote a long stretch of time to the man and his family, his friends and his enemies. It will be time very well spent. Excellent job.

A book, must read for every American.

Important perspective for a wannabe Trump administration. The reader can say: I know (about) President Jackson, and you are no Andrew Jackson.

A great book in a great president...

I found this book very interesting and easy to understand. From the book I learned to appreciate Jackson as one of our greatest presidents. What caught most of my consideration was how the election campaign were run very similar to today's presidential election? All the bombast is mostly daubing each other and not talking enough about the issues.
