Summary
"Repeat after me: I. Hate. Sales."
Sales is the bane of the freelancing life. Various polls conducted in freelance communities show that "finding new leads/customers/clients" is what freelancers self-identify as their biggest weakness and the area of self-employment that they struggle with the most. We see it as an intimidating and overwhelming prospect, with many of us considering “selling yourself” as a slimy, sleazy process. We have to go out to business events, hand out business cards, and brag about ourselves to complete strangers, right? Wrong. Well, you can do that, sure...or you can sell yourself in a way that really isn't salesy at all.
The best way to sell is not to sell. Let that sink in. The best way to sell is not to sell. It sounds completely and utterly counterintuitive, but it's the truth. Hence the name of this audiobook: Anti-Sell. And in this audiobook, I'll tell you how and why it works and how to do it.
Its chapters cover the following:
- There's a long list of sales, marketing, networking, and lead generation tactics and tips to give you an idea of some of the traditional ways - but also a number of alternative ways to get your name and your face out there
- How you can tie the sales process into your passions and your strengths - so that sales won't feel like sales
- How being altruistic and contributory is a great way to be recognized within your field/specialism
- And much more!
Also, throughout the audiobook, there’s “Anti-Sell Stories”: eight case studies contributed by real-life freelancers, each of whom details how they’ve fought the fight with sales (and won).
This audiobook isn't narrated by a salesperson. I'm a freelancer, just like you. This audiobook runs through my story, my journey, and my tactics on how I've managed to win work without selling myself too much (or selling my soul too much, for that matter). So, if you're a freelancer who hates the idea of sales and selling yourself, then hopefully, this audiobook will serve you well.

Honest in-depth Portrayal of freelancing struggles
Possibly my favourite business audio book so far. It was refreshing to hear this is what other freelancers experience while struggling to build their lead generation efforts. Narrator / Author had excellent story-telling skills.
p.s. I hate sales!!!

A gem for freelancers!
I heard Steve speak at Freelance Heroes Day a few years ago. I had a really useful chat with him afterwards and listened to the book on my journey home.
The actionable tips in the book are delivered in a friendly, humorous way. I felt like I was continuing the conversation we’d had over coffee.
It’s full of golden nuggets of advice and actionable tips, to help you attract dream clients to you. In a genuine, non-salesy way.
Buy the paperback and highlight all the golden nuggets, or download the audiobook and enjoy Steve’s friendly wisdom.

A great book for people who suck at sales
This is an amazing book!! I’ve been running a business for... a long time and suck at active sales. All my work has been from word of mouth or organic sources. I’ve never marketed, advertised or done any of the things you’re supposed to do when you do bizniss. But this book is great!! It covers ways to increase your client base and get your ideal clients without picking up the phone and annoying strangers all day. Full disclosure, I got the audiobook because I drive a lot and recommend that full because Steve’s smooth, velvety tenor is the thing of dreams!! It's like listening to a voice made of pure Galaxy Chocolate.

Addictive & Authentic
Absolute gem of a book! The author’s voice narrating his journey brought the book to life and made it highly addictive! Steve Morgan’s honesty and transparency on being a non-authority on selling confirms his position as an absolute guru on anti-selling which (spoiler alert if you haven’t read the book) has exactly the same result as selling! A must-read!

A must have for anyone embarking on the freelance journey
As a freelancer, I have continually found it uncomfortable thinking about the selling part of things related to my digital marketing service offering. Steve’s book is a must have for anyone who is in a similar situation regardless of where they are in their freelancing journey, moving away from how the traditional selling process should be.
The book is full of actionable hustle-free ideas that you could put into practice, learnt from his own real-life experiences whilst building his freelancing business over the years, a journey that he shares in the book.
In addition, I liked some of the Anti-Sell stories that Steve shares of other freelancers that he has come across during this journey, complementing the great tips included in this book.
The audiobook is narrated by Steve himself, delivered in a friendly and easy to absorb way.

Lots of great tips but needs to drop the man-bashing
The book does exactly what it says it offers... if you don’t like sales/ introverted it provides a bag of good tips to help you remain effective when having to sell yourself
But why the author, multiples times keeps talking negatively of men I don’t know or why it’s even relevant?
