Summary

This is a creatively written discipleship guide and counter-cultural message for listeners weary of motivational platitudes. The editor has seen nothing like this on the market.

Authenticating age old precepts and principles it identifies human patterns of strife, scheming, and self-delusion. It gives spiritual wisdom from the author’s own "canal navigation" as a powerful metaphor of the spiritual life. Giving a finished perspective from which to view present challenges, it delivers many deep insights.

What if you could navigate your life without strife, fantasy into faith and lift destiny out of delusion?

You might be a believer, yet you struggle to believe God really will do what he has promised. God tells us, “All things are possible to those that believe”, but do you have more in common with doubting Thomas than King David or Mary? You love God, dream big and work hard to put life into the vision that thrills your heart. You know God can do it. But will he? And through you? Internally you scream “What If?”, or prayerfully wish “If Only!” whatever happens, “Even If” disappointment and delay interrupts your journey, author Gill Bentham convinces you that the tests are worthwhile. She reveals a powerful truth: When you live “As If” your dream has already happened, it is yours!

Gill gently teaches through three themes. First, the ancient character Jacob the striver; second, the metaphor of a meandering canal cruise and thirdly, a curious mixture of fictional reflection and wisdom extracted from her own life's anecdotes and observation.

This is a truly imaginative Pilgrims Progress, birthed at the turn of the millennium for every 21st century believer who is weary of the superficiality of spiritual platitudes and sickly-sweet recipes for success.Your mind and heart will be stirred by the author's gentle yet authoritive handling of life's eternal themes and paradoxes.

Amazing and inspiring spiritual journey

Gill uses such a creative way of taking you on her spiritual journey through this letter to her unborn grandchild. Learnt so much as inspired / stirred by willingness to be vulnerable in talking about her ups and downs.
Love how easily the book flows through great usage of various analogies from canal waterway system to driving. On a side note this has spark an interest in canal boats, really hope to hire one one summer with the family. GREAT, GREAT read/ audiobook highly recommend it.
