About this listen

A grand old London hotelA series of alarming coincidencesDanger lurking down every corridor

Impeccable service. Luxurious rooms. Eccentric guests. There are worse places for Canon Pennyfather to find himself stranded than Bertram’s Hotel.

But when he gets his dates in a muddle and attempts to travel to Lucerne a day too late, he unwittingly sets off a violent chain of events.

And Miss Marple is convinced there is more going on than meets the eye.

Never underestimate Miss Marple

‘Agatha Christie inspired me, aged eleven, to write my own murder mystery set in a country village. I can’t remember much of the plot (think the vicar did it) but Christie has been inspiring me ever since.’
Elly Griffiths

‘Brilliant.’

Long may Agatha's books be published.

As with all A.C books it's well written. Stephanie Cole narrates the book in great style. All round a very good way to spend time.

Delightfully read

I am only recently come to the delights of the Miss Marple books by Agatha Christie and this book as read by Stephanie Cole is, so far, one of the highlights.

The story is as complex as you’d expect from this particular author but what sets this audiobook apart is the narration. The sheer wealth of different voices used by Stephanie Cole really brings each character to life from the fast, breathy voices of the younger ladies to the deep sonorous voice used for Father. It is like honey on the ears.

Totally entertaining

I listened to the a chapter at a time over a number of weeks and found it really enjoyable. Apart from one character accent (sounding like an extra from a vampire movie to be honest) the reading / performance was spot on and highly entertaining. Well worth a listen.

A brilliant book and wonderful narration

It is so good to rediscover these stories through Audible and Stephanie Cole 's narration is fantastic. Such a slowly sinister and dark novel.
