Sometimes the past is best left behind us, but sometimes we all need to say goodbye.

Cracking story

Not what I expected from the narration ie voice, however I've read the book and think is built a picture in my head as to what the voice would sound like.
Great story as always.

fun fast post-apocalyptic short

I was given a free copy of this story for a fair review.
This is a fun short at only 25mins in length it's easy to find a few spare moments to listen to, it revolves around a post-apocalyptic theme of lost love and closure. its a great story written by an author who truly gets character-driven storytelling, although I gave an overall 5-star rating please note that this is by far not Glynn James best work his diary of the displaced and arisen series is by far and above superior that said this is still a great short and pleasant listen.
the narrator Andrea Emme's performance is good, not great but good and easy to listen to.
So if your a fan grab it now, if not grab it and give it a go.

Unexpectedly haunting

I received a free copy of this audiobook from the author.

I listened to this and to 'Thrown Away' consecutively, and actually wondered if they could be two sides of the same story, although it is part of the 'Diary of the Displaced' series, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Do try 'Thrown Away' as well, and you'll see what I mean.

You don't need to have read the previous instalments in the series to understand this story, although I recommend them unreservedly as a very original story arc. This story lasts 25 minutes in audio format, and absolutely captivated me. What appears initially to be a woman looking back on a youthful love affair that was cut short by outside events becomes something even more touching and sad. As usual with Glynn James, we are in a dystopian future, but he sets the scene so delicately that the story actually becomes almost timeless. It's the emotions which are explored here, not primarily the mechanics of the breakdown of society.

The American performer of the audiobook does a pitch-perfect job of creating the story's narrator, and knows just where to pause to create an effect. Excellent work all round.
