Summary

Nick O'Flannigan needs a break.

The Austin music scene is just the ticket, and throwing in a little recreation seems like a good idea. But a local musician has been killed, and a new friend of Nick's wants his help. However, the police have warned him off the case, and he really doesn't want to be involved.

One step back

But something is wrong. There's a critical clue, a footprint at the scene, and only Nick seems to suspect it means something more. Will his insight save the day, or will he find himself once again in deep trouble?

From a deep mystery, some great music, and the gritty atmosphere of Austin, Texas, you won't want to miss this travel murder mystery, the next in the Capital City Murders series.

Music, food and murder

I enjoyed this book but was slightly disappointed with the ending, I either missed it or the author glossed over the motive for the murder. Otherwise the author continues to capture your attention with this fun mystery set in different places around America. This is book 14 and if you have been on this journey from the start then you will know what to expect, phone calls to loved ones and the boss, places to eat (that are actual places), The capital building, a few places to visit or attractions and of course a murder where the police warn him not to get involved but with each book the story stays fresh with a different and unusual method of murder. They are a quick listen, so don't expect the plot to be to complicated with lots of suspects or twists but a fun way to just relax and travel with out ever being in danger.
Nick is in Austin to photograph the Capital building for his work assignment, as he is checking into the hotel that is going to be his home for the week, he learns something that is going to get him involved in another murder investigation. The check in clerk is in a band and the guy she use to date has just been murdered by an axe. Nick's reputation has preceded him and she asks for his help. Nick wants to stay out of it because last time he nearly lost his job working a case but when he finds himself at the crime scene he can't help but take photos. Will he spot something the police failed to notice in his pictures? Or will a killer walk away free because the police arrested the wrong man?
I liked the narrator, he used a laid back style to give voice to the characters, which worked well for this story.
