Good Listen, Poor Ending
This is a good listen, well paced and taut right up to the rather abrupt ending whi ch leaves so much unresolved. Too many loose ends. Frustrating.

didn't finish
I just got bored. I think it is because of the narrator - she sounds like a child, especially when doing a deep male voice. sorry.

Interesting and different but spoiled
I found I was constantly distracted from the story by the writer’s apparent obsession with various odours. Virtually every venue and many characters were described in terms of their smell, mostly very unpleasant. For me it spoiled the listening experience, not because I am sqeamish but because it detracted rather than added to the experience.

Great but loose ends need closure
The narration was excellent. The story was captivating until the end! Is there a part 2 perhaps?

Modern Day Detective Drama across Nigeria & London
Absolutely riveting! Great characters, pace and subject matter. Likeable characters and colorful. More books please.
Totally unexpected plot twist with characters that move fluidly across parts of London and Nigeria.
Narration by Weruche Opia brings the words of this book to life with a perfectly nuanced performance.
This is a detective series that just begs to be continued.

Did not enjoy this
I was not a fan and I think 3 stars is me being generous to what was at least a fair performance but an uninteresting and predictable plot. I also am really surprised at the unnuanced portrayal of Nigeria and its London diaspora. All this to say that this was a disappointing read given how excited I was for a Black written detective novel.

Excellent Debut from Oni
This is a fantastic, chilling debut from author Oni. The story has a good pace, and I couldn’t put the book down once I started. I was really rooting for the interesting, well rounded characters.
It is rather scary material so not for the lighthearted. Despite the source material, it manages to portray a quite contemporary picture of Nigeria. As an added bonus,
the book is performed brilliantly by the talented Weruche Opia (you might have seen her in I may destroy you) who nails every single accent and voice.
I look forward to reading more from this fresh new voice.

I'm a scardey cat... but I couldn't put this down!
Did I tell you all I'm a scaredy cat??? How I ended up reading a book highlighting human sacrifice but also assumptions of blame that tie in with this I do not know...
However, somehow I did 🙈🙈🙈
I managed to finish listening in the middle of the day as the night time was proving too much for my brain 🤣🙈
Thriller/mystery/ horror are not my genres. I think this book is Def a 4⭐⭐⭐⭐ for keeping a non thriller gal engaged and wanting more. Those used to this genre comment below and let me know your thoughts
1. I've already mentioned the talented narration please see previous posts
2. I love that we are beginning to see black British women in different genres and narratives. Our main character hero is a detective, cultural background from Nigeria
3. I love the concept of being used at times by our non black colleagues as cultural expert within the work place feel free to push that back on them boo
4. I love that in the darkest moments of this book all hero could do was to whisper a prayer under her breath... Best believe I was doing the same as Mr villain man was wayyyyy too convincing
