Summary
Employing a unique combination of psychology, philosophy, sociology, and dog training theory, Vicki Hearne recounts her experiences with Bandit, a dog deemed so dangerous that the state of Connecticut condemned him to death. Hearne rescued Bandit and was soon entrenched in a legal battle that extended well beyond his case as she fought to prove that no dog is inherently vicious. She quickly discovered the factors that contributed to Bandit’s behavior and set about releasing the essentially “good dog” that lay within.
Editor reviews
The longstanding question of nature vs. nurture and what excuses or explains bad behavior is explored through the example of a dog, Bandit, who was to be put down by the state of Connecticut and his savior, audiobook’s author, Vicki Hearne. Hearne, as the introduction states is as much a teacher and a poet as an animal trainer which is clear in this true story, as much about what animals can teach humans as what humans can teach animals. Heather Henderson preform Hearne’s story with warmth as if it were her own. If you’re a pit-bull lover or sympathizer and a lover of philosophy you will find a lot to think about in Bandit and Hearne’s legal tribulations and victories.

Phew, my brain hurts!!!
I was really looking forward to listening to this book. The plight of 'dangerous dogs' is a subject very close to my heart. But this book is almost impossible to get into, as Vicki Hearne just does not get to the point of anything without using twenty words where one would do, this becomes very wearing and annoying. So many boring boring details. Not at all what I was expecting or looking forward to. I just wanted to scream at this lady get on with it for heavens sake. I have listened to just over half of this recording and am sorry to say have had to give up on it for the sake of my sanity. So Sorry Bandit, even though you sound like a fantastic fella, I cannot listen to you mistress droning on. I bet she puts you to sleep too.
