Why did I wait so long to read this?

I put off listening to this for so long, I was scared I wouldn't like it, that it'd be too angsty, that it'd not be a romance.

I'm an idiot! I loved it, I should have known I would, it's a Penny book, I always love them.

I learnt a lot through reading it both about others and myself. It's such a loving book, their romance develops gradually and you understand the mistakes they make. It's not just your cookie cutter standard romance but it still has that perfect ahhh as you end it.

Of course if you've been reading the series from the start you'll want more of the Winston Brothers and the knitting group but that's just as it should be

Penny Reid does it again, creating a book you can’t let go of!

Penny writes amazing characters and this book epitomises her strengths as a crafter of stories. Shelley is awesome and Beau is perfect for her. I so wish there were more Shelleys and Beaus in the world!

Beautiful. Loving, tense, complex and interesting

It’s shocking, but this series just gets better and better. I enjoyed the last story so much I didn’t think that this could top it, but in some ways it has.
There’s always something special about a Penny Reid book and this one has so many special moments.
I honestly loved every word. Laughing, crying, exclaiming and sighing throughout. I can’t wait to start the next.

A lovely story

I have two places for listening to books. In the car and in the bath. This one was a great read for both of those places. Now I'm going to look for the next one in the series.

Great book - love Penny Reid books and characters

Penny Reid creates such a good balance of loveable (slightly quirky) characters and a story to lose yourself in which is both amusing and emotionally engaging. A refreshing change to the typical romance books out there which, frankly, are naff. I probably prefer some of her other books, but the bar is pretty high as I LOVE her other books. This is still a great listen, and Chris Brinkley (the main narrator) is brilliant. Not as keen on Angela Dawe but she suits the character. Will always buy Penny Reid books as soon as they are released.

Excellent romance covering issues with sensitivity

Beau discovers love in the most unlikely way after his first meeting with Shelley. Despite her personal issues Beau is determined to help her. The narrator did a fabulous job of bringing all the characters to life and well done Penny for this great series about the Winston family. I wish I could give the whole series more than 5 stars and I highly recommend this audiobook ❤❤❤❤❤

HUMOUR, HOTNESS, WITT, I LOVED IT

I am absolutely loving this series in audio, its like seven brides for seven brothers, one of my favourite musical movies from when I was younger.

Each brother is unique in their own way and I couldn't wait to read Beau and Shelley story.

Beau is the charmer, the pleaser, hes the kind of person who will do anything for anyone, hes the complete opposite of his twin Dwayne. Beau Winston is the nicest, most accommodating guy in the world. Usually, until Shelly Sullivan begins working at the garage and the woman's straight talking and rudeness gets his back up.

Shelly is a brilliant mechanic, yes she's rude according to beau, she doesn't shake people's hand in greeting, she's and odd ball but you only see the Shelly on the surface and getting to know her quirks and the revelation of her OCD that controls her was intriguing.

I couldn't think of a more perfect and patient guy for Shelly than Beau Winston.

Shelly's character is the most interesting of the women I've met in this series so far in this series although all have had their own quirks and Beau, *sighs, he's so dreamy and swoon-worthy and he became one of my favourite of the Winston brothers but each book I finish I say that, you just can't pick one as a favourite in this series and well, i'm still not finished with the series and can't wait to read more from these hot bearded brothers.

Each book can be read as a standalone, but there are progressions or circumstances that run in order such as Dwayne leaving to go on his travels, you see the preparation of that in this book, Sienna and Jethro's wedding the build up to that and then there's Billies longing looks at Claire, I can't wait to read their story, so I would say this series is better read in order and I highly recommend the audio version, its brilliant!!.

A heartwarming romance with humour and Witt and can I just say * fans self down, the car scene was hot!!

Weak addition to a great series

I really wanted to love this book as much as the previous ones in this series but I struggled to finish it.

The h in this book is fascinating as she has serious OCD issues, for which she is finally getting therapy after acknowledging the damage it causes to her life and her family. Unfortunately only a few (wonderful) chapters are from her POV, and we learn little about her past life and problems: How did she become so technically skilled and artistically famous? Why had she started adopting pets? Why did her family fail to recognise she had real issues? How had she managed to have past lovers/relationships? How did she cope with the social atmosphere of art school? How old is she? Ms Reid was brave to give us such a flawed h, but I did wish she was further down the road to recovery/coping, as I thought this would have been essential before she could develop a healthy romance.

Unfortunately, however, most of the book was narrated from the POV of the H, and I found his head to be quite a tedious place to be as his thoughts rambled constantly, in every direction. Annoyingly, most relevant information about his background was explained in previous books, and in this book he accepted the issues of the h with unrealistic ease. He often attributed qualities to the h (brilliant, good, strong, caring, loving) on absolutely no evidence, because in reality the h’s behaviour made her seem the opposite of these attributes, as much of the time she was openly rude and insulting. However once their romance started this was deemed quirky rather than unpleasant, and she soon mixed with his family and attended events with relative ease, which seemed a little fantastical after a lifetime of antisocial behaviour and solitary living.

As with the h, I was also left with many questions about the H: Previous books portrayed him as a charming womaniser, but in this book he has been celibate since college, with no decent explanation why, but still managed to be a skilled lover. He had a super rich best friend who ran a strip club and sent him strippers (sooo sleazy) and expensive gifts ($50,000 watch, a house….!) for reasons never really explained. We get all sorts of hints about past events and family problems, but no proper details. Facts about other family members are dropped into the story but just muddle the plot unless the reader is familiar with the previous books, and the book finishes unexpectedly with several unresolved issues (the h’s visit back home, her unresolved family problems, the H’s newly discovered mother, his father’s prison release…). Even the epilogue left me confused – As a final romantic gesture the H gives the h part of something he had himself received as a gift! (Side note for art lovers: Kintsugi does not use solid gold, it used gold leaf, or gold dust!)

I do feel that Ms Reid missed an opportunity here to show a real, mature and complicated love story (like so many of her previous books). I don’t feel the H ever really comprehended the severity of the h’s problems, and the book fizzled out into a “love would conquer all” sort of story.
