Intrigued to say the least
Kept you guessing and was really rather good. Didn’t know where it was heading but enjoyed the ride.

Not just a war story & held my interest throughout
I have listened to other books by JJ Kennard which are fantastic and as I'm not into war stories I avoided this one. However I decided to give it a go and I'm glad I did. I thought this was a lovely story, a touch of war without being heavy on that side of things with a possible romance, but then it becomes very intriguing with a turn of events which lead Armstrong down an entirely different path. I know there is no sequel but if there were I'd be eager to see how Armstrong managed with his new orders.
The author writes in such a way that I can imagine the scene as if it were a black and white film playing. As I said, this book held my interest and the narrator was able to put across the conversations very well. It felt authentic and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The only bad thing is that there's no follow up book but I'm happy with the ending regardless.
