Nearly Awesome
The plot is really engaging. Probably the fewest sessions I've taken to finish any novel . But with the characterisation, there could have been much less tell and more show regarding the "guilt" Way too much repetition and padding which actually killed the impact . Especially because it was written in the first person. The narrator's gritty, ominous voice was pefect casting though it grated initially and took a few hours to appreciate.

Well worth a listen
A bit too much unnecessary detail on occasion, and the narrator’s accent when changing into one particular character is irritating but overall a very good story. I’ll be looking out for more by this author.

Gripping
there were parts that dragged but overall a very good book. I heard Angel of Death 1st. which was equally as gripping, so had to go back and listen to this one

Soon and gloom and …. Hope
It was a really good story with lots of twists and turns but ….
There were lots of really depressing sections with really depressing characters and really long descriptions which I didn’t think enhanced the story.
I usually really like this narrator but I’m sure not everyone in Sheffield speaks in slow and menacing whispers. Even the women who whisper away in every scene… and the men are harsh, violent, cruel and whispering! Ps the accent was good - even if it was in a whisper!

Interesting
It is a story that one can listen to and be kept interested. Two things worried me, one was that a man should be so stricken by the accidental death of his child, that he masochistically attempts to destroy not only his own life but that of his wife as well; he appears to have little interest in anyone else's feelings only his own. He also becomes prone to unacceptable violent outbursts which leads to his being the cause of the death of another.
The second worry I have is that his character becomes dangerously close to advocating violence against known child abusers, whatever feelings one might harbour that these offenders deserve severe punishment it is never good to encourage the public to work outside of the law.
