Summary

One corpse. Several bizarre looking attackers. Some very strange magical powers. And a severe bout of amnesia.

Madrona is not having a great week. It's going to be okay, though. All she has to do is find out who she really is, protect a soap star from being attacked by a stalker, and work out why so many people seem so afraid of her. Because surely she's a good person. Right?

Fun Fantasy

I had really high hopes for this story as my previous reads / listens to Helen Harper’s books were a real treat. This one was a treat with one exception. This one ends on a cliffhanger! (There are further books in the series already released so this is no major problem.)

After waking up next to a headless body, being attack and slowing down time, Amnesia suffering, Madrona draws the conclusion that she must be a superhero. ( and then proceeds to invest in the usual comic book hidden identity outfit, complete with mask and cape. )

Several chance encounters lead her to discover that her initial assessment couldn’t have been more wrong.

Filled with humour, fabulous fantasy characters and heaps of adventure, Box of Frogs is the first book in the Fractured Faery series. If this book is any indication, then Helen Harper has penned another wonderful series.

Twists & turns yet will we learn.

Loved it from its unusual start. She has a hilarious profanity which is childish coming from an adult but its meanings are unmistakable and hilarious. Can’t wait for more in her journey around Manchesters unexplainable quarters and realities.

Okay

This isn't one of Helen Harper's best books. It took a while to get into the story, and to be honest the main character is very annoying. There were several occasions where I almost gave up on the book altogether but managed to keep going, and the story did pick up towards the end, however I'm not sure I liked it enough to bother with the next books in the series.

Disappointment

This series is a massive disappointment with a capital D.
Loved everything about it from plot twists to romantic entanglements and even the bad guy! The thing that ruined it for me was the main character - Madrona. She's self righteous, narcissistic and over confident. She considers herself to be the smartest, prettiest and the most clever person in the room at ALL TIMES. Her inner monologues and any kind of interactions with other characters in the book made me cringe so hard that I was rolling my eyes in exasperation every 10min. The only reason why I stuck with it till the end was an amazing set up for the storyline and hope that as she rediscovers who she is she'll stop being so annoying.

Honestly! The most unbelievable aspect of the series wasn't fairys or werewolfs or even the bloody pink elephant! It was the fact that people around her could stand being around her and her enormous ego...

Awesome story and a great idea but it was hard for me to finish it.

Not, bad, but . . .

This book is lightweight and fun, and reasonable, and the narrator does have some talent. However, she also has a lisp, which meant that I spent a lot of time wondering why anyone would choose a narrator with an audible speech defect. She's good at doing character voices, and putting feeling into the story, but there is still a lisp. It's like hiring a ballet dancer with a limp. However good the performance, you're going to notice the limp and wonder about why this person was chosen to perform.

Not a book

It’s a serial. This is episode 1. It’s mediocre and I am annoyed that it is not a stand alone novel. I won’t buy the next one.
