Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

Whether we like it or not, the AI revolution is coming to education. In Brave New Words, Salman Khan, the visionary behind Khan Academy, explores how artificial intelligence and GPT technology will transform learning, offering a roadmap for teachers, parents, and students to navigate this exciting (and sometimes intimidating) new world.

An insider in the world of education technology, Khan explains the ins and outs of these cutting-edge tools and how they will forever change the way we learn and teach. Rather than approaching the ChatGPT revolution with white-knuckled fear, Khan wants parents and teachers to embrace AI and adapt to it (while acknowledging its imperfections and limitations), so that every student can complement the work they're already doing in profoundly new and creative ways, to personalize learning, adapt assessments, and support success in the classroom.

But Brave New Words is not just about technology - it's about what this technology means for our society, and the practical implications for administrators, guidance counsellors, and hiring managers who can harness the power of AI in education and the workplace. Khan also delves into the ethical and social implications of AI and GPT, offering thoughtful insights into how we can use these tools to build a more accessible education system for students around the world.

A complete philosophy of AI in education

Salman Khan has addressed all the practical and philosophical aspects to be considered when employing Generative Artificial Intelligence in Education for learners, teachers, parents, schools, colleges, curriculum boards, education authorities and employers.

I suggest you read the second half first from part 4 to understand all the strands and practicalities, then read the first half parts 1 to 3 to understand how he was in a unique position to lead this effort

Good insights into AI

We are entering a world where we are going back to a preindustrial revolution craftsman like experience where a small group of people who understand engineering, finance, sales, marketing and design are going to be able to manage armies of generative ai and put all these pieces together. Exciting times for creators.

An 8 hour Advertisment

I was hoping to gain new perspective and Ideas on how AI will be able to change learning, what the opportunities are and what we will even still need to know to be effective in the future.

This book, however, focuses on the now. Specifically what are current capabilities and limits of the AI bot on Khan acadamy. Very little perspective is offered on the future or on the impact of AI as a whole. Instead the author gives us expert testimonies for the their product.

Unusual to pay for a commercial

Irritating having to pay for a bland commercial. The few and far between nuggets are available for free elsewhere
