Summary
When the body of Maggie McFarland, an 86-year-old widow, is found among the rubble of the once-famous landmark Artemis Hotel, leveled by fire nearly 70 years ago, residents of Roscoe are shocked. However, it is not the location where Maggie is found, but rather the manner of her demise that has everyone puzzled.
For it isn't a heart attack that has felled her; nor has she suffered a stroke or taken a fatal fall from a porch. Her life has not ended so uneventfully. Maggie has been killed by a bullet to the heart, fired from a pistol at close range. Who would possibly want to kill this kind, gentle woman, known throughout the area as one of the best trout fly tiers within a hundred miles of the famed Beaverkill River? That is the mystery that confronts Matt Davis in Broken Promises, one of the most baffling cases of his career.

A gentle and life-affirming mystery novel.
If you could sum up Broken Promises in three words, what would they be?
Love, murder and fly-fishing.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Broken Promises?
I think there were a lot of memorable moments. The scene of the original tragedy.... The relationship between Matt and his wife.... The meeting about the wind turbines.... The book is very character based, and the American small town setting almost has a character of its own.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
I enjoyed all of it. Each scene seemed to stand out perfectly in its own right.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I actually enjoyed listening to it over several car journeys. I found that I was looking forward to hearing the next instalment.
Any additional comments?
I really enjoyed this audiobook. It's the kind of book that makes you feel better about people. I think the narrator did a wonderful job too.
