About this listen

Welcome to Caraval, where nothing is quite what it seems.

Scarlett has never left the tiny isle of Trisda, pining from afar for the wonder of Caraval, a once-a-year weeklong performance where the audience participates in the show.

Caraval is magic. Mystery. Adventure. And for Scarlett and her beloved sister, Tella, it represents freedom and an escape from their ruthless, abusive father. When the sisters' long-awaited invitations to Caraval finally arrive, it seems their dreams have come true. But no sooner have they arrived than Tella vanishes, kidnapped by the show's mastermind organiser, Legend.

Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. Nonetheless, she quickly becomes enmeshed in a dangerous game of love, magic and heartbreak. And whether it's real or not, she must find Tella before the game is over and her sister disappears forever.

Hyped

This is such a hyped series and while it started really strong, the plot did fade a little in my estimation. It was a very ya story, drama a plenty with lots of twists. There's enough for me to want to continue but my expectations are lowered.

Overall decent narration with a few irritations.

Hmmm.

I almost ditched this book as for 2/3rds of the book I found Scarlet a terribly annoying character. Thankfully the last third of the book, the plot picked up and Lordy me looking forward to book 2.

Narration was good.

Fantastic!

What a brilliant book, I totally got immersed into the world. I listened to this one on audible and it was very well read, and performed.

Scarlett is one of those characters who starts out to be a bit timid and set in their ways, but then throughout the book you go on a journey with her and see her growing, which I adored.

Julian really surprised me, he’s a guy who knows what he wants, and is very convincing, but it’s one of the point of views where you don’t know whether to trust it or not.

Brilliant twists and turns throughout, the amount of times I gasped out loud and had my heart racing, I almost thought I was having a heart attack, but I loved eve dry second of it.

Can’t wait to learn more in the next book

overly hyped

sadly this wasn't as good as the reviews said and the ending was totally predictable. Great narration though.

A curious delight

If you liked the Night Circus or you enjoy the work of Neil Gaiman, especially Stardust then I’m confident you will enjoy Caraval. I’m excited to read the next 2 books from this set.

Whimsical and enchanting.
