About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
The first Jackson Brodie novel: literary crime from the prizewinning, number-one bestselling author of Big Sky and Transcription.
Cambridge is sweltering, during an unusually hot summer. To Jackson Brodie, former police inspector turned private investigator, the world consists of one accounting sheet - Lost on the left, Found on the right - and the two never seem to balance.
Surrounded by death, intrigue and misfortune, his own life haunted by a family tragedy, Jackson attempts to unravel three disparate case histories and begins to realise that in spite of apparent diversity, everything is connected...
'An astonishingly complex and moving literary detective story that made me sob but also snort with laughter. It's the sort of novel you have to start rereading the minute you've finished it' Guardian

Genius storyteller
Kate Atkinson is an amazing storyteller, intertwining stories with ease. Narration too plummy, slightly irritating.

Book excellent, performance poor
Reader couldn't be bothered to find out how to pronounce Niamh. Is it really so difficult?

Bit of a plod.
Too much human interest and not enough plot for me. I found the time shifting and different characters point of view difficult to follow. Perhaps in the printed book this is clearer. I won’t be buying any more as definitely not for me.

Loved the intertwining of stories, humour and mysteries to be solved. A great read by a great author

Very difficult to follow
I have listened to this twice in the last week, and it is really hard to follow. It jumps around in time and seems to be trying to tell 3 or 4 stories. I would love to be able to give lots of spoilers, but to be honest, I have no idea what actually happened. I don't think I will be trying Kate Atkinson again.

Thoroughly absorbing and entertaining
I read each of the books in the Jackson Brodie series when they were first published and decided to revisit them on Audible as a recap before reading Big Sky. I’m so glad I did. The books are even better than I remembered and Susan Jameson’s narration is superb.

Not the normal crime story
just love Ms Atkinson's writing. This is a case in point. Loads of interesting characters you actually care about and a plot that jogs along with twists and turns. Brilliant.

Puzzling
This is the first book of Kate Atkinson that I've read and I enjoyed it enough to try a second, after all, she came highly recommended. But this one was far too disjointed, it probably would have been better if the author had stuck to 3separate short stories instead of jumping around totally unconnected accounts. Let's see what the next one is like.......
