Knights of the Golden Circle

Approximately 150 years ago, Confederate soldiers were believed to have buried a cache of gold stolen from unionists in the area. When a film crew arrive in town to make a reality T.V.show about the incident, also hoping to discover the gold bars during the course of the filming, Ellie Nelson, former prosecutor and now owner of the successful local art facility, is persuaded by her friend to audition for a part as an extra. Sadly, it is not gold but the dead body of a local man that is found by Ellie, and he had been murdered...

This cozy mystery murder by author P.L.Gartner is an easy, fun read which includes the trials and tribulations of filming life as well as continuing the growing romance of Ellie and her F.B.I. hero. The locations are visual in description and the characters become real even if not fully defined. Narration is again by Danielle Bryn who reads with clarity and good inflection, but too quickly, losing some of the impact of the story in her seeming haste to get to the end. Slowing playback unfortunately did not help. The recording itself is also marred by a cold, empty feeling, not yet an echo but not natural, either.

Casting Call for Murder is the third in the Ellie Nelson mysteries, but can easily stand alone. It is an enjoyable book from an enjoyable, gentle series - there is murder but without undue violence or emotional extremes. It has a rightness of response. I was fortunate in being freely gifted with a complimentary copy of Casting Call, after my request via Audiobook Boom. Thank you.. A good story let down by the over brisk narration, still enjoyable but probably best read than heard.
