Critic reviews

"The Mortal Instruments series is a story world I love to live in. Beautiful." (Stephanie Meyer)
"The story's sensual flavor comes from the wealth of detail: demons with facial piercings, diners serving locusts and honey, pretty gay warlocks, and cameo appearances from other urban fantasies' characters....Lush and fun." ( Kirkus Review)

Amazing story,

I never wanted to stop listening, it was amazing.
The plot twists were unexpected and made me curious to what would happen.

Great book but not a fan of the audio

I'm not going to review the book as I've read it before and it is one of my favourites, so this review is on the audio.

I struggled a bit with the accent as I listen to British audio usually, but I can't fault this as I knew what it sounded like from the sample. What I did find was that the different characters didn't have different voices which made it difficult to follow sometimes - except for a few characters (the single hispanic character, their tutor and the old witch) which was a bit odd. There also seemed to be an abundance of sarcasm, most of which I picked up myself in the book but some which I didn't feel was well placed.

I would recommend the book, but I would recommend physically reading it if possible to get the most out of it.

It's a great story

Ive always loved shadowhunters story and wanted to listen at work but the narrator sounds like meg from family guy and she says Parabatai completely different to how I read it.

Personal irks aside a and unfair ones at that, it's a good book.

Great story badly told.

Unfortunately the narrator and her emotionless, tired sounding, effort lacking performance struggled to keep me interested in what I know, from reading the book myself already, is a great wee story. Hopefully the change of narrator for the future books will draw me back in.

Annoying voice, great story.

Annoying narrator (for me personally), fantastic story for YA Genre. All the audio books in series seem to also different narrators which unfortunately really took me out of the experience. I wanted to be able to listen to a story I adore as I worked/done housework and ended up frustrated and unable to enjoy it due to my personal dislike of the narration.

Fantastic, truly.

I really enjoyed the City of Bones. Well written and well read. I was enthralled from beginning to end. The story was coherent and well paced with plenty of plot twists. Believable characters and well drawn relationships. Despite the story being incomplete and obviously set up for a sequel it was still satisfying. Well worth reading.

Book was great, Narrator not so much.

The book itself was wonderful, this series is one of my favourites and I was so excited to listen to it as an audio book however, I was massively let down by the narrator. I found her voice very irritating and it grated on me. Thankfully, she only narrates the first book or I might not have continued the series.

good story but tricky to follow on audio book

This is undoubtedly a good book, but its also a complicated and lenghty one. I found myself having to relisten to segments to try and figure out what was going on. It would in this instance have been better to have the book to flick through to re-read crucial passages. It is enjoyable, and will appeal to twilight fans and YA market.
