Exciting Story Crammed with Civil War History
As a US Civil War history enthusiast I can heartily recommend this book. It has been heavily researched by the author Ruth Ochs Webster and has a wide appeal to both male and female readers. Domestic life of the day is well described from male and female points of view and background to joining opposing regiments by sons and cousins made so interesting. Battle scenes and horrors of the prison camps come in stark contrast to previous happy family days. Subsequent resuming of civilian life and restoration of family ties has an authentic ring. All in all I found it to be an exciting story as well as being very informative from an historical point of view.
