Summary

How does a pit crew change four wheels in 1.9 seconds?

And what does that mean for a company like Blackberry?

What is Ron Dennis' secret to good time management?

And how can that help TV producers?

Why is F1 the perfect example for leadership, motivation and strategy?

And what can we learn from it?

In The Winning Formula, driver, commentator and entrepreneur David Coulthard opens the doors to the secretive world of F1 and reveals in simple, entertaining and utterly compelling terms how he has been able to master this mind-boggling variety of disciplines by applying the skills honed from his years at the top of the world's most demanding motorsport.

By recounting his own stories and combining them with firsthand experience of stellar individuals such as Lewis Hamilton, Ron Dennis, Sir Frank Williams, Christian Horner and Sebastian Vettel, Coulthard provides a fascinating fly-on-the-wall insight into F1 but at the same time offers an invaluable guide to the business of sport and the sport of business.

Suited more towards businesses

Even though the book is structured towards either working or running a business there’s a wealth of information that you can use in everyday situations and there are many references to F1 and all delivered perfectly by DC himself.

From CEO to another this is a truly inspiring book

Having met DC many years ago when trying to make a fitness video with him (that got postponed for Williams seat fit) I can testify to DC’s intense work ethic.
This has now obviously some 20+ yrs on materialised in to a very well rounded person that a-lot of business leaders could gain from. I shall be using some of these great points to add more value to our business interests.
Well done David!!

By DC, AKA Alan Partridge

I like David Coulthard a lot. I think he and his team on Channel 4 present a better F1 programme than Sky's much more heavily funded version, and I liked him as a driver. I had heard that he had invested in a hotel during his career as a F1 driver and I was interested to hear the story behind this and of his other business ventures. Unfortunately, this audiobook is pretty crap...

I don't know if reading the book myself would have been better but, certainly, having it read to me by the wooden-voiced Peter Forbes made the whole thing come across as if it was a business book written by Alan Partridge. Sorry, but it really was a mistake not voicing the book yourself, David.

Pretty obvious stuff

Pretty decent and reasonably entertaining explanation of basic but somewhat obvious principles for life as well as business. Beware, it is rather repetitive, but I guess that's to drive home the message.

A unique read...

I’ll start with the not so good news. This isn’t a business book as such. There’s no magic formula that’s going to make you a million.

However, this book is truly awesome. Having followed Coulthard for some time I was intrigued to see what he had to. This book gives you a real insight into that but also what a genuinely nice guy he is. I won’t give anything away but it is really worth at least 1 listen.

Do you have to be an F1 or car but, no but it will help. He even mentioned Adrian Neweys book ‘how to build a car.’ (side note, if you listen to Neweys book there is another example of how nice Coulthard is).

In all I would say worth the read. The book will make you understand how Coulthard has done what he has and there are little ways that we can all use to be more successful.

A Riveting Read

A tremendously interesting and hugely enjoyable read. Whether you are a Formula 1 buff or not, DC's story has so many insights and parallels in to the world of business you'd kick yourself if you left this book unread. Illuminating, uplifting and packed full of examples as to how the lessons learned learned in the rarefied world of F1 can have a massive impact in our lives.

F1 Fans & Entrepreneurs

A great insight to into the world of Formula 1 and what it takes to succeed in one of the worlds most competitive sports. Then practical examples of how this can be applied in the business world.

Maybe not applicable in all situations but at least one or 2 gems to takeaway. If you’re an F1 fan you’ll enjoy it just for the peak under the hood.

Great listen, very insightful

I loved this, walking to work became very inspiring. It is a very honest account, which I like, and although I didn't always agree with his ethos or perceptions it was refreshing to hear someone else's experiences in this way.

Very good - would recommend

This is a very good listen with plenty of good advice for both business and living life generally. There was no “discombobulation”. Plan to buy the book as well. Thank you David
