A dark and gripping debut crime novel – the first in a stunning new series – from a huge new talent.

The killer is just getting started…

When three wife beaters are themselves found beaten to death, DC Maggie Jamieson knows she is facing her toughest case yet.

The police suspect that Probation Officer Lucy Sherwood – who is connected to all three victims – is hiding a dark secret. Then a fourth domestic abuser is brutally murdered.

And he is Lucy’s husband.

Now the police are running out of time, but can Maggie really believe her friend Lucy is a cold-blooded killer?

Story great - Narrator terrible

I thoroughly enjoyed this story, although the awful accents nearly made me stop listening. I still haven't quite worked out where Kate Malone was supposed to be from, she went from Irish to Liverpuddlian and South African all in one speech at one point! I will definitely physically 'read' the next book when there is one, if it is going to be read by the same Narrator.

Dead inside

Good listen but not all it was said to be. Narration was very good. Not too bad

Lacklustre characters

There was not one single character in this book that I could relate to, all of them were annoying in their own way, but Lucy was, without doubt, the most annoying of all. I can't really say much more about this book as I found it really irritating and don't want to post any spoilers, but I will say that this is a typical DA type thriller, evil men, weak women except for the one woman who actually turned out to be just as gullible as the rest of them. The narrator does a reasonable job but she will not become a favourite with me any time soon as she has a very young sounding voice and cannot make anything sound particularly serious.

Predictable...not good at all

Would not read again or recommend probably one of the worst I’ve listened to.
She talks about not being able to buy a book or her husband will notice it, but early on she’s reading her kindle in the bath so he wouldn’t see it anyway
