About this listen

Audible number-one best seller Peter Clines returns with a thrilling tale of the creature above - and the deadly threat below.

In the year 2243, the Moon belongs to the dead.

The largest graveyard in the solar system, it was the perfect solution to the overcrowding and environmental problems that had plagued mankind for centuries. And the perfect place for Cali Washington to run away from her past.

But when a mysterious meteor crashes into one of the Moon’s cemeteries, Cali and her fellow Caretakers find themselves surrounded by a terrifying enemy force that outnumbers them more than a thousand to one. An enemy not hindered by the lack of air or warmth or sustenance.

An enemy that is already dead.

Now Cali and her compatriots must fight to survive. Because if they don’t, everyone on the Moon may be joining the dead.

And maybe everyone on Earth, too....

Critic reviews

"Narrator Ray Porter actually catches a break with this gruesome science-fiction audiobook. Much of this thriller's cast is composed of thousands of silent zombies, so Porter doesn't have to differentiate much among them.... But he still shines while bringing to life multinational characters, ably employing distinctive accents and timbres. He really ramps up the tension as a dwindling handful of survivors struggles to save humankind from a chilling threat." (AudioFile Magazine)

I liked it

I really liked the story, it's very different from other books/films I've listened to and watched. my only gripe is I would of proffered a woman to do the women's voices.

Superb. Quick paced cthulhuesque terror.

what's not to love about dead moon? Peter clines delivers another fast-paced character driven horror. masterful twists and chilling climaxes that will take your breath away just like losing pressure in a space suit.

Not the best book in the series

Struggled to keep me engaged. Shame because I've loved all the other novels in this series.

Dead Space inspired?

This book is a mixed bag. At its peak, its great, and at its worst, its Hard to listen to. The bad part for me was in most due part of the Narrator, it didnt fit right with the theme and flow of the book itself. At its best, it was intriguing to listen and visualize the setting and creature.

I could'nt help but feel like I was listening to a story about "Dead Space", that has similiar ideas and settings. And if you like those video games, you May enjoy this, but dont expect anything great, both from a story, and character perspective.

Very 'meh' compared to the previous two

It's basically a B-Movie in book form. Fun for what it is, but not half as compelling as '14' or 'The Fold'. The narrator does a great job but the cast of characters he has to bring to life are pretty shallow. All of Clines' secondary characters seem to have a penchant for considering every absurdly unlikely alternative explanation to the one the protagonist is suggesting, but usually that's a quibble. In this book, it leans the other way, with the whole cast making huge leaps to unfounded yet miraculously accurate conclusions.

I saw that other reviews suggested skipping this book and going on to 'Terminus'. I'm a completist, so I disregarded the advice, but now I can confirm that the advice is good.

Not like the others in the series, but still good!

As others have said, this book is not like the others in the series, but still good! There is no reference to the other books and this story could be read as a stand alone. It’s a good zombie story with an interesting twist that wastes little time getting to the action. The narration by Ray Porter is first rate too. I can recommend this if you like the genre.

Zombies on the moon!

Quite liked this because I like zombie books etc Has a bit of a twist as it’s set on the moon but it’s really got the same ingredients as every other zombie book - with one exception the excellent I Zombi - any how it filled some time and wasn’t too taxing on my brain ...
