Summary

In Central Park, Assistant DA Alex Cooper and Detective Mike Chapman race to track down a serial killer. Is the body found in the Ramble the first victim of a deranged psychopath, or could other missing women be connected? The sanctuary in the middle of the city for thousands of New Yorkers and tourists who fill it every day, may very well become a hunting ground at night for a killer.

Good but not great

Not quite sure what to say. I've not read /listened to any of Linda Farsteins work before, so I got this based on 1) it was on offer and 2) other reviewers. The plot summary sounded quite appealing and more importantly the narrator was Barbara Rosenblat who is, in my opinion, one of the best readers for audio books I've come across. So I thought it was worth giving it a go.

The plot line was OK but nothing special. I found the flashbacks very interesting but more as a bit of historical interest of life in a time gone by, than because of the mystery. I confess I found the history and details of central park and how it was built far more interesting than the main story plot. The lead characters were not particularly memorable (Its a little over a week since I listened to this and I've forgotten the names already!). If it hadn't been for the excellent narration I would probably have given up. I gather this is from a long running series of books, so it's possible that this is not a particularly good example of this series. Overall a good listen but it didn't exactly grab me.

Fabulous

Would you listen to Death Angel again? Why?

Barbara Rosenblat is probably why I chose the book, from her narration of Lisa Scottoline and Amelia Peabodys books. She simply is fabulous. She can do the characters so well, it like listening to a Play with different actors. The story was excellent as well and the marriage of the story to the author is what made this an excellent book.

Any additional comments?

Great book

Hmmmm

Well, I quite like the chemistry between Mike, Coop and Mercer, but this tale seemed a bit tedious. I was a little distracted by Barbara Rosenblat's voices, and her pauses that weren't always in the right places. she had Mike sounding rather like Jimmy Durante - and I found this really off putting.

Certainly not one of Linda Fairstein's best, some parts were a trifle odd - as in - 'I cannot believe that this was the result of that action'.
