About this listen

Gabriel Travis – a poet and book binder – has lived and worked above the popular bookshop in Chipping Common for many years. His story is tragic, his murder even more so. The police are convinced the bookshop owner is the culprit; the elderly and erudite, Ezekiel Melnyk.

Adeline Fanshawe is less convinced, indeed she is outraged that the police could even consider such a thing of the venerable bookseller. She naturally turns to Miss Busby, persuading her to bring her sleuthing skills to unpick the truth of the matter. In doing so, Miss Busby uncovers another tragic mystery, one that has lain dormant for far too many years.

Well worth the listen

After thinking I wasn’t keen on the first story in the series I wasn’t expecting to much but I’ve enjoyed it immensely. The characters have bloomed into real people who I already care about and want to find out more about. Can’t wait for the next story and am going to re-listen to the first story as I think I over reacted to not have Major Heathcliff Lennox and gang in the story.

A Charming Cosy Murder Mystery

I like these books as they make very good bedtime listening. They are soothing and a delightful totter into a graceful era of good manners and old world ways mostly good but a reminder too of some best gone.
Right down to what dogs and cats were fed on before the elaborate pet food diets of today.
A bit of a gentle escape. The narration is excellent.

Interesting story. Not obvious but intriguing.

Loved the setting and the descriptions of a quiet country life and the friendships between the characters.

Conflicted

I love Karen's stories, listen to all the Lenox and Swifts and now Miss Busby. This has the same clever writing however in this one I find the character of Adaline Fanshaw infuriating! I don't know how Isabel stands her. I hope she's not featuring her as much in the on going series.

Not finished.....

So sorry. I found the first book rather dull, but this one was even worse. It was extremely slow and boring. The characters were characters.
Gave up at chapter 14. Realised I'd been thinking of other things while 13 was playing.
Rather pedestrian book, but containing none of the skill and humout of Karen's own writing.
