Summary
It’s been six months since El Diablo’s disappearance, but Desi Campbell still has nightmares.
Still adjusting after time-traveling, Desi hunts demons with her coven in 1899 Santiago.
Then she hears rumors that El Diablo is back - and he's in Manila, where Oliver is fighting in the Philippine-American War. She travels there to warn him.
A heart-crushing secret is exposed. Familiar faces resurface. And Desi is faced with dark magic she's never known before.
Demons stalk the city, preying on civilians. Desi is torn between protecting innocents and finding El Diablo.
She continues fighting, until she finds herself surrounded by demons who practice the darkest magic.
But Desi will do anything to protect the ones she loves. Even if it means pledging herself to darkness forever.
This book ends on a cliffhanger.

Great second book
Desi finds out from the seer that El Diablo is in Manila looking for Oliver so her coven sends her and 2 friends to investigate. Things don’t go to plan and everyone wants Desi for different reasons mostly to use as a sacrifice with that and the bombshell Oliver drops on her it’s a wonder she stays sane. Can she defeat el Diablo and save her loved ones and what will she do to make sure they are all safe.

A worthy follow up to Twisted by Time!
This is a worthy follow up to Twisted by Time!
Again all the elements that made the first book in the series great are present and woven into a fabulous, spellbinding tale of magical battles between light and dark magic, but now some of the lines are becoming blurred and the divide between the two may not be as defined as at first believed.
Six months from where the last book finished, Desi is living in Cuba in 1899 and a demon huntress in training. She has found a home with the Santiago coven and a close friendship with Elena. Her relationship with Oliver is complicated and further impeded by him going back to America to continue his work on the council. The thing that marrs this new life is the knowledge that El Diablo is still on the loose. Then Oliver is drafted to the war in Manila and Desi finds out that El Diablo is there too.
Members of the coven decide to intervene and save Oliver. Desi, Elena and Guillermo teleports himself, Desi and Elena ahead of the coven to Manila, where they go undercover to scope things out.
Once again I am drawn in right from the start, especially as I am familiar with the main players. Desi has grown up a bit over the last six months, though she is still guilt ridden, stubborn and impetuous, which lands her and her companions in trouble numerous times.
There lots of the characters from the first book and a number of amazing new characters added, who are equally as complex, interesting and believable as the characters in the previous book.
This time the local cult/religion is Voodoo, though it only plays a small role in the story and there is much more narrative relating to demons and dark casters.
Again there is plenty of action and fighting, complicated romance and friendships, suspense and some unexpected twists.
I am pleased that Rebecca Winder narrates again; as it adds to the continuity of the series of books.
I received this book in audio book format free from the author and am leaving this review of my own volition.
