Summary
I’d done my time as an entrepreneur and corporate CEO. I wanted a change, to spend the rest of my career advising and supporting the next generation of great companies. But when I started this journey, I could find no definitive literature on how to get started as an NED in the private sector. It was all about PLCs staffed by city grandees. Books, courses, and qualifications were all about governance and best practice. For sure, important stuff to know once you are in the board seat, but not a practical guide about how to get there. I was blessed to have a supportive network to guide me. Along with having those great mentors, this is the book that I wish I could have used from the start.

Misleading title.
The title of this book suggests it would work for most new NEDs. But actually it’s really about investing NEDs in small start-ups and small scale up companies. It would be more helpful if the title indicated that and I wouldn’t have wasted a credit on it! I guess it’s not my style either because there seemed to be a lot of namedropping.
