D-Day, 6 June 1944, the turning point of the Second World War, was a victory of arms. But it was also a triumph for a different kind of operation: one of deceit . . .
At the heart of the deception was the 'Double Cross System', a team of double agents whose bravery, treachery, greed and inspiration succeeded in convincing the Nazis that Calais and Norway, not Normandy, were the targets of the 150,000-strong Allied invasion force. Under the direction of an eccentric but brilliant intelligence officer in tartan trousers, working from a smoky lair in St James's, these spies would weave a web of deception so intricate that it ensnared Hitler's army and helped to carry thousands of troops across the Channel in safety.
These double agents were, variously, brave, treacherous, fickle, greedy and inspired. They were not conventional warriors, but their masterpiece of deceit saved countless lives. Their codenames were Bronx, Brutus, Treasure, Tricycle and Garbo. And this is their story.

Fantastic as always!
Another brilliant book from Ben Mcintyre. I've read most of his books and this one is up there with the best of them. A compelling story which gives detailed but easy to follow accounts of all of the main protagonists in the D-Day deception plan. Well narrated and thoroughly addictive to listen to.

Fascinating and exciting
Another great book from Macintyre. There are quite a lot of characters to keep track of, but the real life stories of each of the amazing spies, their controllers and the D day deception is fantastic. Such a lot of research must go into Macintyres books but they are still so readable and exciting. The stress, tension and danger of the wartime activities really comes through in the book.

Fantastic story, great story telling
Whatever the story, if you don’t like the narrator it’s hard to continue …. Very handy then that Ben Macintyre is excellent at writing these brilliant books and reading them to us!
A superb story, incredibly well researched with unbelievable access to official documents. Such an important operation and the link to D-Day makes it so interesting.
Listen to this and every other book by Ben Macintyre and you’ll be immersed in such rich and factual story telling. A real treat.
