Se publican aquí relatos extraídos de las cartas en las que Benito Pérez Galdós contó a los lectores argentinos del diario La Prensa dos sonados asesinatos de la época. Estas cartas hubieran permanecido en el limbo de las hemerotecas de no ser por Alberto Ghiraldo, que en 1928 dio a la imprenta unas Obras inéditas de Galdós en varios tomos, cuyos volúmenes VI y VII llevaban el título de Cronicón. Ghiraldo realizó una labor notable: del conjunto de las cartas entresaca aquellas (o aquellos párrafos, en su caso) que se refieren a un mismo asunto y compone así varias unidades narrativas independientes.
