Summary

The explosive new book from longtime royal journalist Omid Scobie and author of the international blockbuster Finding Freedom, Endgame a penetrating investigation into the current state of the British monarchy.

An unpopular king, a power-hungry heir to the throne, a queen willing to go to great lengths to preserve her image, and a prince forced to start a new life after being betrayed by his own family.

Queen Elizabeth II’s death ruptured the already-fractured foundations of the House of Windsor – and dismantled the protective shield around it. With an institution long plagued by incidents involving antiquated ideas around race, class and money, the monarchy and those who prop it up are now exposed and at odds with a rapidly modernizing world.

Relying on his vast experience as a royal reporter and over a decade of conversations and interviews with current and former Palace staff, trusted friends of the royals and even the family members themselves, Scobie pulls back the curtain on an institution in turmoil to show what the monarchy must change in order to survive.

This is the monarchy’s endgame. Do they have what it takes to save it?

Very well written book

This is very well written by Omid. Fair and balanced view which gives a good insight into the manner in which the royal family actually behave versus the image they want us to believe.

Great book about a struggling institution

Entertaining and insightful book about an institution that is struggling to modernize and embrace a new era. Found it very balanced, he manages to call out their fall outs as well as give credit to the royals’ hard work and successes.
As a millennial interested in the royal family and its future I found this book worth reading/listening.

Fascinating, a must read.

Not sure British people are ready for the truth hence all the negative feedback. No matter, the rest of the world is. In short, all the elements of a sure bestseller.

Excellent!

I bought this book whilst not expecting it to be more than moderately interesting. I am pleasantly surprised to find that in fact, it is well researched, measured and intelligently written. It is not a hatchet job on the Royal family, rather it is an analysis of the institution in its modern form and of the people within it. The stream of 1 star reviews must surely be from devoted royalists who are offended by its existence and who have purchased it just to leave their negative review, then return it. They cannot have read/listened to it.

Endgame

Thoroughly enjoyed Omid’s book apart from the last chapter about Charles’s coronation. Would recommend that others read and learn. Thank you Omid for being such a professional at your job.
