Summary
Their extinction will be the beginning of ours....
All over the world, birds falling out of the sky cause countless traffic accidents. Reports of dead fish washing up follow. As the mysterious death of animals increases and a terrifying future unfolds, a family in a small Vermont town grapples with the inexplicable.
With emergency phone lines tied up, Emily Mansfield, a science teacher, finds herself stranded miles from home with an injury and forced into a race against time when strangers kidnap her child for unknown reasons.
In a state of desperation, Emily turns to Game Warden, Travis Young, and her ex-husband for help in getting her back alive. But the odds of survival drop by the hour when exacerbated by a deadly medical condition and unforeseen chaos.
Delivering tension and thrills that will hold you until the end, international best-selling author Jack Hunt offers a gripping snapshot of a world unraveled by an extinction event unlike any other.

"Everything is connected."
A fast paced thriller set in the horror confined of an apocalyptic event: the unexplained deaths of birds everywhere. As the chaos of the falling birds causes motor accidents jamming the highways, a twelve years old girl is kidnapped as her mother hangs trapped in their burning car. Who has taken Anna, and why? A race is on to find her: being diabetic, without her insulin medication she can only survive for a limited time. As fish, then farm and domesticated animals, also fall prey to the mysterious 'Event', the reader meets those involved on both sides in the kidnapping story. Despite a certain predictability, this is an eventful story which draws in the reader, holding attention to the very end. The apocalyptic part of the book - the animal extinction - is not, however, covered beyond brief mentions of the difficulties and chaos resulting from the initial horror. Perhaps a further volume will elaborate on this.
Narration is by Miles Meill and was well paced, clear and with God articulation, a touch of emotional excitement breathed into his delivery. Individual characters voicings were also present. My thanks to the rights holder of Extinct, who, at my request freely gifted me with a complimentary copy via Audible Unleashed.. It was an enjoyable thriller, with reasonable character development, more than just a shoot it up story. However, for anyone looking for survival practices following an apocalyptic disaster, this is not that kind of story. Maybe next time. But this is a straightforward, if convoluted, who?, why? and how to save the day? thriller.
