Brent Spiner
About this listen
Brent Spiner's explosive and hilarious novel is a personal look at the slightly askew relationship between a celebrity and his fans. If the Coen Brothers were to make a Star Trek movie, involving the complexity of fan obsession and sci-fi, this noir comedy might just be the one.
Set in 1991, just as Star Trek: The Next Generation has rocketed the cast to global fame, the young and impressionable actor Brent Spiner receives a mysterious package and a series of disturbing letters, that take him on a terrifying and bizarre journey that enlists Paramount Security, the LAPD, and even the FBI in putting a stop to the danger that has his life and career hanging in the balance.
Featuring a cast of characters from Patrick Stewart to Levar Burton to Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, to some completely imagined, this is the fictional autobiography that takes listeners into the life of Brent Spiner, and tells an amazing tale about the trappings of celebrity and the fear he has carried with him his entire life.

Great performances but mediocre story
Great performances but mediocre story.
I wanted to love it, being a Trekkie, and loving Brent, however it wasn’t the best.

Great Lore from Data himself
Very funny, unpredictable, varied vocal contributions (especially Patrick Stewart’s Dickens and Burton’s meditation) and refreshingly engaging.

the actor narrating the story is absolutely perfect as Brent Spiner.
clever story, describing perfectly the thin line between adoration and obsession that fans sometimes inhabit!

A really fun listen!
Really enjoyable listen! This is absolutely a well written piece of real person fan fiction and I enjoyed every minute!
The story got a teeny bit predictable in some tiny ways but still fun!

I want to love it.
Look preface this with the fact I am a huge Trek Fan and love everything about it. If you are a fan too, this is definitely worth a listen. I love Data and Brent, this just felt like it was struggling to be fully formed and coherent. Although it is clearly fiction it is blended with much fact which makes it difficult to reqlly, trust or believe any of it. It’s a bit like trying to watch two different TV shows at the same time. It’s good, but muddled and I think ultimately I would have just preferred a fictional story OR a real autobiography. It’s a neat idea to blend the two, but it just doesn’t sit quite right.
Brent delivers a a good performance and obviously the cameos are fun.
I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it although I had to find out the denouement, so I listened fast and long!
Treckies will enjoy it, everyone else may struggle.

A bit of fun from a fan favourite
Is it Shakespeare? Absolutely not!
Is it fun, did it make me laugh and did I enjoy it? I absolutely did!
I’ve been a smidge generous with my rating but this story - and the audio book performance - brought me joy and I am thankful for that.

Best Trekkie Story In Years
I came across this book purely by accident. I was looking for anything Star Trek related and came across this little gym.
I personally think that it's the best Star Trek related story since the TNG days. To have all the cast play themselves was a lovely surprise and the storyline had me gripped. I've listened to this book twice in a row now in two sittings.
Brent Spiners' excellent narration along with a 'who done it' tape storyline made for the best listen in a long time.
if you like good narration, Star Trek stories, mystery stories, excellent acting and very well done background sounds, then this is definitely the one for you.
Happy listening and live long and prosper.
