Four years old, terrified, disturbed – Sami is a child in need of help. Now it’s up to psychologist Dr Jessie Flynn to find the cause of his suffering and unlock his darkest memories, before it’s too late.
A psychologist with a secret
Meanwhile Jessie is haunted by an awful truth of her own. She works alongside former patient, Captain Ben Callan, to investigate a violent death – but the ghosts of her past refuse to leave her.
A body washed up on the beach
When a burnt corpse is found on the Sussex coast, Jessie begins to uncover a link between her two cases – and a desperate killer will do anything to keep it buried…

excellent read
loved it, the narrator is brilliant and flicks between the characters with ease. this is the third book I've read of hers and she chooses her stories well. Excellent Storyline with a final twist. I'm already looking forward to my next read.

Throughly enjoyed this. Didn’t see the ending
As always Clare Corbett gets it right - for me she is a dream to listen too.
Loved the characters even those you don’t like. Didn’t expect it to be set around the War in Afghanistan or the army so it made a huge change from middle England. Already bought book 2 and hope to enjoy it as much as no did this one.

Absolutely amazing
I loved this book despite the fact that it had me in tears almost throughout, it's too sad would be my only criticism, it's certainly unlike any other book I've ever read.
Clare Corbett gives an excellent performance throughout.
This book should come with a warning though, it focuses predominantly on the trauma of a four year old boy and is very distressing but is such a fantastic story I do recommend it (with the warning) .

Decent story but very tedious
The story is good, the characters are well developed and the author is clever to have come up with such a good plot. Unfortunately a large amount of dialogue is so boring. I kept switching off and day dreaming which I don’t normally do whilst listening to audio books. The book had a lot of potential so it was a shame. The story was could probably have been told in half the amount of time.
The narrator is very good although her child voice is extremely creepy which made it hard to feel any compassion for the young boy.
The main character is extremely annoying. She comes across as an unprofessional, arrogant, useless psychologist with a huge chip on her shoulder. It’s impossible to like her and I’m deterred from reading more books in the series.
