Summary
A fun family vacation turns into an apocalyptic nightmare when a couple and their young son find themselves trapped in the Irish countryside during an international crisis. With all contact outside the country gone, all electricity and all non-horse-powered vehicles useless, and desperate bands of outlaws roaming the Emerald Isle, the time has come for one soft American family to reach deep within for the reserve of brains and courage to survive.

Interesting premise and not without possibility
I imagine that many people will enjoy the book as I have.
As a vehicle for a story it's a good story line but ....Just too unbelievable that such unskilled and not that particularly interesting parents would be so lucky and be able to find such support and power in a foreign country. Taking themselves so seriously And totally lacking in humour. Even so -Yes I will read other books by her and trust as time goes by she will she'll find greater depth.
My Family and Other Animals is a better example of survival on unfamiliar ground.
I think the writer is trying to make a living rather than writing to the best of her ability which is perfectly understandable however I can't help feeling she is capable of much stronger stuff.
