Summary

British novelist Martin Amis and actress Lauren Bacall on this edition of Fresh Air. Martin Amis is considered one of the leading British writers of the late-twentieth century and one of the most controversial. His books include Night Train, Money: A Suicide Note, The Information, and London Fields. His memoir, Experience, is now out in paperback. Much of it is about his father, the late writer Kingsley Amis. Lauren Bacall is a legend, though she doesn't like to think of herself as such. She's been a star of stage and screen for nearly sixty years, was married to Humphrey Bogart, and won the National Book Award for her 1978 autobiography By Myself. This weekend, Bacall is being honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the fifth annual Tony Awards Party, which takes place Sunday June 3 2001. (Broadcast Date: June 1, 2001)
