Summary

Provides new and highly effective techniques for parents dealing with behavioral challenges with their children. Intended for parents, adoptive parents, foster parents, and caretakers of at-risk, ADD/ADHD/RAD,ODD, adopted children and children with behavioral and emotional challenges.

Bryan Post speaks to parents about the challenges they face when dealing with behaviors that are often present for children who have experienced trauma. He helps parents understand the impact of pre-birth and early life trauma and the impact of interruptions in the attachment process. This book addresses the underlying issues that are the root of the behavior challenges. He breaks down complex science in a way that is easily understood, and gives specific, field tested, proven effective solutions, and strategies.

In his compassion for parents and children he offers hope and solutions for the challenges families face. Once this book was thought to be specific to adoptive and foster families, but now more and more parents are finding this love-based, trauma informed approach to be helpful in creating cooperative, healthy, loving relationships with their children. In today's society children experience trauma at a never-before seen level. Abuse, neglect, divorce, domestic violence, frequent moves, poverty, homelessness, social tragedies, all have an effect on children.

The more recent ACE's (adverse childhood experience) tool gives us insight into the reality that our children are struggling with traumatic experiences at an epidemic level. We, as adults, are being called to create healing for these wounds. This book has been touted by parents and professionals as their "must listen, go to" for understanding their traumatized child, and effectively helping them heal. Over 20,000 copies sold.

Bryan's straightforward, clear-cut approach has created peace and healing for hundreds of families; families who once operated in fear, are now experiencing love.

Excellent

What a fantastic book. Appreciated the short and to the point chapters which offer an alternative way to parent. Will definitely be looking out for more content from Bryan Post.

Interesting for all parents.

I love how Bryan narrates his book. His explanation of how a child’s brain (and in fact any human brain) responds to fear is fast paced and concise but easy to understand.
I knew a lot of what he was telling me but his personality just cemented my knowledge further. Useful for all parents and professionals who have contact with children. So much has been discovered recently in Neuroscience we all need to know this stuff!

A must read/listen

I have just finished listening to this book whilst walking my dog! There are many books on adoption and parenting. Many of which I have read, however this book I would urge any parent with child/parent struggles to read this. This has come when I needed it after a lot of reflecting. It has definitely opened my eyes and understanding of both my children and my fears. It has given me hope again after feeling helpless and lost for some time. I shall be listening again and again, taking notes as suggested, and implementing the strategies. This will be my go to from now on. Thank you Bryan for sharing your wisdom.

Not just for adoptive parents but ALL parents

This totally EXCELLENT book is the gold dust all parents need. If every parent not only read but applied the principles to their families I’m convinced the results would be profound.

Stress response from listening to the author

Contents for me got lost in the author’s delivery. It often felt like he was rushing the words and almost shouting. I found I couldn’t take in a lot of the salient points as I was irritated by the delivery. One to read rather than listen to for me
