About this listen

British organised crime has changed beyond all recognition over the last five years. Youth violence, the drug trade and rising levels of gun crime are rarely out of the news. Beginning on the troubled streets of the inner cities, Gang Land takes its readers on a journey up through the underworld hierarchy until it finally reaches the very highest levels, occupied by shadowy ‘Mr Big’ characters.

a good insight

Where does Gang Land rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Thompson gives a good insight into the various criminal organisations operating within the UK, some background into their history, and testimonial accounts of how each operates with the other. There are many interesting parts to the book in which he describes getting high on crack cocaine and heroin, recounts almost getting beaten up by bouncers whilst pursuing an interview, and mock selling drugs in Camden.

Great overview with detailed stories

I first read this book years ago and really enjoyed it. Tony is a great writer and has gone even closer to the subject matter to get an even better insight. Covers multiple levels of OC and delves into stories to paint a detailed picture. Only issue I would say is it would have been better if Tony had narrated it himself but the narrative is still very listenable

average

I struggled to finish it because it was just a long list of crime story anecdotes that got monotonous

Ok but thats about it

The book is ok however im struggling to stick with it.
The narator has a really dreary voice and what makes it worse is when they cover statements from certain gang members that have been interviewed. If u want an example imagine prince phillip or david cameron voice speaking as though they are in a street gang with words like whagwan, man'dem and all that you just cant take it seriosly.
On the plus side it doews cover from drug dealers on street corners to street gangs to the big players in more organised crime.

Not interesting (from beginning)

Perhaps I did not give it a proper chance however 1h in I’m still listening about misbehaving teenagers and gangsters wannabes just did not catch me.

Narration ruins it!

Some middle age bloke trying to talk like a teenage gangster. 3 chapters in and I can't listen to anymore - awful.
