Summary

“Remember that stories can set us free. Tell her a story from your heart and she’ll know what to do.”

Forty-year-old Federico Garcia is an Afghan vet who has seen more than enough tragedy for one lifetime. His dreams and memories of his bloody past haunt him, and leave an empty space in his heart. When he meets Marie, a young woman trapped in an abusive marriage, they forge an unlikely friendship that blossoms into the promise of something more....

Until Marie is mysteriously injured in a fall down the stairs, and finds herself in a coma.

Federico begins his own investigation into the life of his beloved friend, and uncovers secrets about Marie’s personal life that she never wanted revealed. But his discoveries have only begun.

Marie would like him to meet someone - the strange and magical Elizabeth - who has a story for Federico to hear.

Magical, lyrically rendered, and sparkling with childlike wonder, Gichi Manidoo is a captivating tale of magical realism and love against all odds.

Lovely characters

The characters in this book were very sweetly portrayed. I was a little confused in the middle of the story but it may have been because I took a break from listening for a few weeks. I loved the parts where you met new animals - they were all very well spoken and their character shone through, and it had some lovely life quotes in the book too. Would recommend if you enjoy fairytale-like stories.

Good story, excellent readers

I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook. I thought the main characters were very likeable and well depicted - especially by the female reader. A magical story and a pleasure to listen to.

Disastrous Narration from the Female Reader

Loved the first couple of chapters which were read so very well by Alan Silva but disaster struck. The female narrator takes over to deliver the worst rendition of text I have yet to hear. What a disaster. My heart goes out to the author. I cannot comment on the rest of the book because I got no further than the dreaded chapter 3. NB The book lasts less than 5 hours so I am doubly sad that I purchased this with my monthly credit. The premise sounded so enticing.
